Immitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…….they say. Since the beginning of our fashionable ancestry, designers have created pieces from different muses. But of course back then it wasn’t such a faux pas to create similar pieces from other designers. Nowadays similar designs in most cases are widely scrutinized, but when it comes to fashions heavy hitters it seems to be excepted. Almost as though there is a mutual respect for one another’s craft. So lets pay homage to those designers who respect one another’s craft so much that they embrace it, shall we.

The Sheer Brilliance of Jenni Kayne

Well what more can I say about Jenni Kayne's Resort collection, other than brilliant. I love her pieces they are simply timeless. Each and every piece has the versatility and simple elegance to be a closet's heavy hitter. This line definitely consist of wardrobe staples that will be fashionable for years to come, consisting of tailored bottoms, flowing gowns, modern trenches, and chic blazers. I am still fairly new to Kayne's designs, seeing that she just entered my radar within the past two seasons, I look foward to many google and style.com searches of effortless lines.

The Look That Was Wang

Alexander Wang.............sigh. My favorite newest designer paired aptly with Phillip Lim, Proenza Schouler and Derek Lam. I usually love his heroin chic look, famously inspired by his partner in crime, the beautiful Erin Wasson. But after such an amazing fall 2008 collection filled with tattered legwear, oversized blazers and mugger-esque head wear my hopes were understandably high. So with anticipation and a click of the mouse I viewed his collection that didn't quite deliver the zsa zsa zsu. Although the line is just nice, I was less than enthusiastic over those drunken gladiator flats he decided to place on his models, leaving their statuesque portioned bodies looking very dumpy. His designs actually reminds me of past Stella collections. This is not a slap at Stella McCartney, she is after all another of my favorite designers. But there are certain looks that Stella can pull off and Wang can't and visa versa. Hopefully Wang's following collection will be up to par. So I guess I'll apprehensively hold my breath, while awaiting his Spring 09' line in September.

Visting Phillip Lim Resort 09'

Well there is no doubt that this collection was designed with younger and older women's needs in mind. He indeed catered to the younger, fresher age group with popping colors, flowing gowns and ever changing hem lines. While also designing more sophisticate pieces which include cardigans, blazers, and subtle prints for a more mature consumer. With only being in the designing world for a few years its obvious he isn't ready to pack his bags anytime soon, he's getting settled for the long haul. Ironically this isn't my favorite collection by Mr. Lim but I just can't resist his clothing's witty charm.

My Mad Dash Out the Door.....

Well here I am, all 5’5 ft of me which my daunting yet gratifying genes has dealt. Wondering if that candy apple lipstick was a formidable choice. Who knows, maybe this Heatherette-esque lipstick will bring some light to this minimalist ensemble which I hastily grabbed as I rolled out of bed at the crack of eleven. Of course I couldn’t run out the door without at least grabbing some kind of accessory before setting out into the awaiting world. What should I choose….a necklace…….. no that’s too simple. How about five….yes five necklaces will do-I pondered while delving into my jewelry armoire to pull out five different necklaces. Two consisting of pearls and little trinkets, one doubled necklace with an skeleton key lingering on the end, an eagle charm which I received from my loving father and a plain gold chain for layering affects. I then grabbed two gold bangles for good measure. Yes this will do, I thought to myself while doing one last mirror check. What no purse, well today was such a busy day a bag would only slow me down. So I would take only what my pockets could carry and with these fitted jeans that’s not much. And now I’m off in to the world.
